KiKA also known as The Children’s Channel of ARD and ZDF is a public, free and non commercial television with its headquarters located in Erfurt, Germany. Its former name was KI.KA but later on changed to KiKA, it’s a joint venture of national public television channels of ARD constituent Broadcasters including HR, BR, NDR, MDR, Radio Bremen, Saarländischer Rundfunk, WDR, SWR and ZDF. Each day KiKA broadcasts a mixture of animated features and live action from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Its targeted audience is all the children and youth that watch the TV content ranging from 3 to 13.
The unique feature about the channel lies in the variety of the announcers it has , some of the most famous announcers of this channel are Juri Tetzlaff, Karsten Blumenthal, Singa Gätgens and Lukas Koch. The recent development of the channels was most popular band Saphir who won the talent show KiKA live. The channel has changed the programming in recent years, yet it is keeping alive the aim of broadcasting the live action series and animated movies. The afternoon Soap Opera is at present one of the only live action series in the lineup of KiKA.
There are two more live action shows that are broadcasted in the afternoon and in the evening.
Augsburger Puppenkiste, is an old television program which was always aired on the mornings of Saturdays and Sundays but its broadcast ceased for four years but it was brought to channel again in the lineup of April 2008. Along with it many old series were rebroadcasted including Pippi Langstrumpf, Pan Tau and Es war einmal which could be only seen on ZDF and regional channels.
Two movies for children are broadcasted at KiKA on Fridays and Sundays, these are mostly the animated movies rather than the live action films. Some of the most famous programs KiKA are Bernd das Brot, Berndivent, Chili TV, Die Sendung mit der Maus, Fortsetzung folgt, KiKA Kummerkasten, KiKA Live, Krimi.de, logo!, Löwenzahn, Schloss Einstein, Sonntagsmärchen, Willi wills wissen and Wissen macht Ah!
